Unhappy VBScript in Custom Action fails with Error 1720

I'm getting this error returned when I test my install:

1720 There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run.

    Here's a sample script:

msgbox "About to create a WScript.Shell object"
    Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    msgbox "WScript.Shell created"

I get the 1st msgbox during the installation, but not the 2nd. This would imply that the 'CreateObject' didn't succeed. I have tried all sorts of various typical scripting commands and all except 'msgbox' return that error 1720....any thoughts?

    I'm running Windows 2000 SP2, InstallShield Express v3.53, and Windows Scripting v5.1

Is the 3rd line of what you have written the same as the following?

    Set shell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

What happens if you manually run this Vbs file? Does it give any errors or exceptions?

I would recommend inserting debug message box to pinpoint the exact line causing the error.
