Hi,

What is the best way to create an MSI package for an application setup that doesn't have one.

For people who are familiar with Group Policy's in Active Directory - I am trying to deploy applications for my networks client machines. The Group Policy's will only allow MSI Installer Packages so any application that doesn't have an MSI then I need to create one.

Hi,

You will have to stick to a Basic MSI project, if you are using InstallShield Developer 7.

To create a single msi package:
1. Media Type: Network image
2. Compress all files
3. Uncheck the option 'Create installation launcher'

However, if you still have legacy Setups (i.e. created with IS Professional) then you will need to repackage them first using Repackager (this will convert the setup into .msi format).
This can be quite tricky and if you need more flexibility to convert legacy setups, have a look at IS AdminStudio. It does a much better job when it comes to repackaging into .msi files.
