I need to have my setup use msi 1.2. But on my development machine I have msi 2.00.x. How do I revert back to 1.2? I have the compressed file from microsoft. It contains msiexec.exe but it also has a bunch of dlls. what do I have to do to install msiexec? Do I simply stop the service, replace C:\WINNT\system32\msiexec.exe, and start the service. Or do I have to replace the dlls as well?

Thanks

I wrote a utility that lets you switch back and forth between engines and does a couple other things as well. you can find it at InstallSite.org.

Hope it helps,

Thanks,

I'm using 7.03b so I don't need a utility for InstallShield packages. I just need to revert to msi 1.2 on MY development machine. 7.03 has a checkbox for MSI 1.2.

What we do at least to test that the WI Engines will get installed through the wrapper is rename the msi.dll.
So, you could try renaming the msi.dll and then install the 1.2 engine.
Don't forget to change the schema version in the .msi.
