Hello,

IS THERE NO ONE WHO CAN TELL ME THE SOLUTION OF MY ISSUE POSTED ON THE LINK BELOW:

http://community.installshield.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=93930

I AGAIN REPEAT:

I WANT TO LAUNCH THE STANDARD TYPE OF PROJECT FROM THE BASIC MSI PROJECT, BOTH BEING CREATED USING THE SAME VERSION OF DEVELOPER.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS A BUG OR WHAT ?

Can you please tell me how it's failing? In your previous post you simply indicated that using LaunchAppAndWait or DoInstall failed.

Please also ensure you're placing this Custom Action that launches the Child setup after InstallFinalize.

Hi,

Thanks for taking interest in this thread.....

Here is the whole story:

1. In the parent install (Basic MSI), tried the function LaunchAppAndWait to call the child setup's setup.exe. This was tried by calling with and without "-s" option as the second argument and WAIT in third argument.

The strange pattern follows: If I use -s, then the child setup does not even initiates. I checked the return value, its 0 always. The child setup files are not installed.
Without the -s option, the setup launches, but in the middle, got the error number 1618.

2. Tried using the DoInstall function. Use the msi of the child setup as first argument but same behaviour as above results.

I can check that the silent file is created correctly since setup-exe -s runs perfectly from the DOS prompt. The setup.iss is placed in the same folder where the child setup's setup.exe and msi is placed.

The CA is also correctly palced after the InstallFinalize action.

Any more information you want or the sample setups u want......let me know.

Thanks.

Have you tried a Windows Installer custom action?

Hi,

What is this Windows Installer Custom Action ? and where to apply it.

I cannot find it anywhere in the list of actions. Please elaborate?

If you are just talking of simple CA, then I have already tried launching the child setup using a CA, but it fails.. :(

Thanks.

Did you find any way to launch the child setup from the main setup.exe?
I need the same functionality in my setup now.

Please let me know if you have already found the way to do this.
