View Full Version : BDE installation in InstallShield3

Currently I am using InstallShield3 to write an install script for a
project which consists of two products under NT3.51 plateform. I need to
combine a couple of scritps together. One is written in InstallShield
Express Dephi 2.0 Edition and the other one is in InstallShield3. I intend
to combine these two scripts into one script in InstallShield3. However, I
encountered a problem of doing Borland Database Engine Installation in
InstallShield3, which was done automatically by InstallShield Express
Dephi. I could not find any functions provided by InstallShield3 to do
this. Is there any way to work around the problem? Would someone please
kindly point to me what "Select InstallShield Objects for Delphi" does in
InstallShield Express Dephi? How does BDE get installed? and Is there any
registry that got updated?

I greatly appreciate your prompt help,

Nick Chang

Hello Nick,

BDE Installation is pretty complex. Other company installers which provide
BDE installation are pretty crappy and do not do the way borland has
starnderized it to be done. I will recommend that you use ISX to create BDE
/ RS installation and launch these diskettes from you IS3 setup using fn
DoInstall.

Open a Delphi 2 or 3 Project according to your BDE requirement.
You need not include any of yor application files. And delete the default
group names like "Program files, help files". What ever is found under the
InstallShield Delphi objects can be installed.

I've seen other answers like this here.

Q: I have a problem. How do I fix it.
A: Well, what version of such and such do you have? We've had problems with
some.

How about telling me about the problems!

When I'm looking at newsgroup posting for an answer to a problem and find
that someone else has asked it, I hope to find the answer in the reply. I
hope to find a complete answer. Instead, there are these "converations"
that go back and forth that take a lot of time.

I hope you get your answer, Stefan. I'm still waiting for an answer to a
question in a different thread. If you're interested, the subject is

If you could supply me with a BDE4.00 version of IDAPINST.DLL that would be
marvelous. If you want to mail it to me, you can use this address.

Thanks a lot.
