View Full Version : more versions install on one PC

Hello,

I have a question that can be rather easy. Default behaviour of Install
Shield is that when user starts setup.exe first time, then software is
installed (and internal ID for the software created). Next time (when
setup.exe is started) only Modify, Repair or Remove is enabled. Is there any
possibility to install the same software again on the PC - we want to
install more version of the same software on one PC (ORACLE enables this for
example). I see a solution in modifying the internal ID in each release
build. But do I have access to the ID or is it automaticaly generated by the
install shield?
It would be nice to define the ID with the version number, thus to ensure
the uniqueness. Uninstall would be available only from: Start - Setting -
Control Panel - Add/Remove Software (Win2000).

Thanks for your answer and/or for your experience with similar situations

Jiri,

Please be aware that InstallShield recommends to approach this with caution.

GUID of the project - "globally unique identifier" can be changed.
It can be found in "Project" menu -> Settings -> "Application" Tab -> GUID
"Change" button.

You can find this in the InstallShield help:

"Your setup uses the project GUID to associate an uninstallation or
maintenance setup with the original setup. A new GUID is automatically
generated for each new project you create, including copies of existing
projects. Once you have changed a project's GUID, its previous GUID cannot
be recovered. For these reasons, changing a project's GUID is typically not
necessary and should be approached with caution. "
