View Full Version : ODBC Install Question

NewsArchive

Just set up a test hard disk just for installs.
Did the basic Windows Install and there is no
ODBC 32 install on the system. It's on my main
systems, but I think some program must have installed
it along the way (Crystal, Delphi, etc.)

Question:

How do I install ODBC on windows as part of my
install (not the drivers)?

Honestly, IS 5.1 is awesome. I used IS Express 2 before and the
ODBC portion of it is... a sinch!!! Nothing could have been easier. But
with power comes difficulty! :)

It happens during the installation.

I've passed your comment on to the PM for IS5 and the CEO. They will be
pleased to know that someone is happy about the product.

Interesting. I'll check the template and will see what can possibly cause
this.... Is the DLL in the prescribed file group? Is it uncompressed by the
time it is called?

Stefan,
If you are going to pass along that info, then also tell them that
the other programmers in my company (Stanley Associates, Inc.) also LOVE
IS!! :) In fact, we just recently purchased a number of 5.1's..
Anyway...back to my problem...

I fixed the previous problem, (prepare to start pulling your hair out,
you are dealing with a newbie here... ;) )

Now I am getting another error message:

Severe
Error updating uninstallation string with reference to ODBC
uninstaller DLL.

Argh, this is driving me crazy, maybe what I ougt to do is scrap my
existing project and start over with the ODBC template? The only problem
with that is, I don't want to instal all of the stuff that comes with
that template and I seem to have difficulty removing the Access driver
because it is required by the sample app (which I removed) yet it still
complains to me. I'll keep you posted since you've been such a super
help! Thank you once again Stefan.

Eric

Don't panic... I'll check the ODBC template out RIGHT NOW, and check to see
where this comes from... and what you possibly might have done wrong... can
you send me your setup.rul?

I am not sure what mdac_typ.exe is I searched for this file on my system I
did not find it. I tried using registry it did not create a DSN entry. The
reason my setup is not completing because odbc32.dll is locked message pops
up. At this point all I want to know how to setup my program directory path
in registry, and also setup ODBC with DSN. Can you please help me I am new
to this.
