View Full Version : NeverOverwrite bug

I have used NEVEROVERWRITE by date and it worked as advertised.

The problem I have is that I would like the option of using other
tests than DATE or VERSION, such as checksum or CRC. In other
words, most of the time I only need to know if the file is different.
You may need to back out of all or parts of an upgrade.

Hello. Will there be an InstallShield Express patch coming out soon which
fixes the NeverOverwrite bug? Luckily I found an old newsgroup posting
which alerted me to the bug so I as able to work around it. However, I'd
still like to get a patch to fix the bug.

Here's the newsgroup posting regarding this bug:

Hi Sebastian,

Do you have a File Group with the NeverOverwrite property set? If so all
File Groups after that one will not be overwrite files on the Target
machine
no matter what overwrite property they have. All File Groups after the one
with the Never Overwrite property will also get the Never
Overwrite property set. The workaround to this would be to have the Never
Overwrite file group as the last file group. It is an issue with Express
and
is on our bug task list.

You could also check and see that the version and the date of the files
that
you try to overwrite with are different so that they both don't have the
same version number. If they do try to change the version number in VC++
and
see if that makes a difference.

Jay, it is being addressed along with the 2GB bug. I don't know when a
maintenance release is ready.
