One of our clients cannot install a CD-ROM because a message saying

OLE file COMPOBJ is locked and cannot be updated.
Close apllication etc.etc.

She has no other apps running and has rebooted her machine
and still the problem persists. Any suggestions?

Paul,

You will need to make sure that Microsoft Office programs are shut down at the time of
installation,
including the Office Shortcut Bar.
Compobj.dll is a Microsoft Office file and can be locked by a Microsoft Office program.
If the error still occurs after you reboot make sure that none of the Microsoft Office programs
are included in the StartUp folder in the Start Menu.

I've run into this problem as well. Especially when running the test
installation mode when building my project and diskettes.

1.) When testing your installation pack, ISEX should not have to update
compobj when on the same system where the package was built. ISEX should
just ignore th elock and continue on.
If the COMPOBJ is out-of-date, then the developer will find soon enough.

2.) If error on delivery, why can't ISEX build a reboot .bat file to
install files out-of-date found during setup? This can be done prior to
Windows starting either on Windows 16-bit or Windows 32-bit systems. The
file then can remove itself on the first reboot. On Windows 95 and higher,
this can be accomplished by putting a reference in the Runonce key in the
registry. On Win3.1 systems, the .bat concept can be used?

Simple enough!
