View Full Version : Install/Uninstall Question

Hi,

Is there a way to prevent multiple installations from creating multiple
entries in the registry as far as uninstall go? When our users get
updates, they usually don't uninstall the previous version first (I forget
myself sometimes), this leaves multiple copies in the Add/Remove Programs
screen. It looks sloppy and is a hassle for our users.

I considered not indicating the .exe file, but then 1st time installers
would not get the registry info they need.

Any ideas?

thanks

My problems exactly! Can someone please help me out? Also, is it possible
to explain the process in "layman's terms" so its easy to understand? I'm
not an ISX Pro! I've read lots of posts regarding this problem but nothing
like a step by step process! Can someone from Installshield reading this
message please provide some detailed information for someone who really has
no idea how to create a custom DLL or Express Extension? PLEASE!

Thanks!

Express Extensions are covered in Chapter 5 of your Express manual (and
under Express Extensions in the Help file).

As for your problem, the best there would be to remove the uninstall entry
(if you know what the entry is under the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Uninstall key).

The entry usually is the name of the application, e.g. what is displayed in
the "Add/Remove" applet in the Control Panel. You can double-check that
entry by opening the above key in Regedit.
