View Full Version : Updating Shared Files In Use

Hi!

I've downloaded the InstallShield Express 2 30-day evaluation. I can't
seem to find in the help file any discussion on updating shared files
that are in use.

Specifically, I'm trying to create an install set that includes all the
relevant OLE 2.20 files (OLEPRO32, OLEAUT32, COMCAT, ASYCFILET, and
STDOLE.TLB) as well as the new COMCTL32.OCX / DLL files. Some of these
files are bound to be in use.

How does InstallShield Express handle these files if they need to be
updated. Especially in the case of users that haven't installed any
apps that use OLE 2.20 (i.e., MS OFFICE 97, FRONTPAGE, IE3.X, VB5 / CCE,
etc.)

Does InstallShield generate the appropriate WININIT.INI files for Win95
or the appropriate calls to MoveFileEx for Windows NT?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Shawn

That's precisely what Express does!

Does this go for ANY file that is locked during install, not
just predefined system files like OLE?

thanks
Richard.
