View Full Version : Win95 vs. NT Installations

I have developed a VB5 app that installs just fine with Express Pro 2 on an
NT machine.

When I try to install the same app on a Windows 95 machine, the following
files will not register correctly:

MFC40.DLL
THREED32.OCX
MHLIST32.OCX

What am I missing?

Hi,

There may be a dependency issue that is not being met on the 95 machine.
It may be that versions of files on the system are not the correct version.
Can you manually register these files? If you can't it's most likely a
dependency issue.

I can't help you with MFC40.DLL, but I think I can help with the other two.

THREED32.OCX is an OCX used by VB4, but has been removed from VB5. If you look
on your VB5 CD under (I believe) "\tools\controls", there will be a list of all
OCXs that were removed from VB4 for VB5 but are included for compatibilities
sake. Also there you will find a registry file to import using regedit.

MHLIST32.OCX looks like a 3rd-party control by MicroHelp... If this is the same
package you are using, you must also include MHRUN32.DLL with your project.

I would suggest downloading Microsoft's DevShellX (Developers Shell
Extensions). You can get them at http://www.windows95.com in their
programming-misc folder. DevShellX will (among other handy features) add a new
tab on the properties dialog box called "Dependencies" -- It will list all
dependencies and exported functions of the DLL or OCX.

Good luck!

My apologies for the multiple postings... I'm having some configuration issues
with my Netscape (obviously).

Thank you for your patience...
