View Full Version : Icons for Document files

Hi There,

I'm using IEX 1.1 and VB5. I've gotten the installer to do just about
everything I need, but have a question about icons. My EXE produces
'documents'. You know, like MSWord.exe produces .doc files. My
'COOL_APP.EXE' produces .COO files. I want the installation to make sure
the client's registry knows about these file types and assigns the right
icon to them, just like Word, Excel, and everything else. Where exactly
can I tell ISX to do this? Does version 2.0 handle this better/at all?

Thanks,

David Baron

You have to create the following registry entries for this (even in Express
2)
under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT:

Key Value
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.COO cool.file
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\cool.file\DefaultIcon <The icon file>
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\cool.file\shell\open\command "<INSTALLDIR>\COOL_APP.EXE"
"%1"
