I am trying to transition from professional 6.3 to Developer 7.0 but I am
having a hard time understanding how to integrate what happens in script
with the sequence of actions. I have read that in standard installation only
the execute sequence runs. In such a sequence I see some actions
OnInstallFilesActionBefore which belongs to the install engine actions (by
the documentation). I would like to know at which point does the
OnFirstUIBefore gets called or who raises such an event so that it gets
handled by the function. Is the action OnInstallFilesActionBefore some how
connected to OnFirstUIBefore action?

I also would like to know if I should avoid the Installscript event handlers
as much as possible or should I use them.

I could write installations in Developer 7.0 using the IS Professional 6.
but I think it defeats the purpose of many features included in Developer 7.
Am I correct?

Thanks

Hi Jorge,

have a look at the 2 drop down boxes above the installscript text window in
the ISDev 7.x IDE.
The left one lets You select "global" areas of things that may happen, the
right one enables You to request
specific action triggers.
Create a new project, take a new setup.rul and choose any combination from
both drop down boxes, systematically.
Insert a MessageBox providing some useful hints on the function name
currently executed into each of the function bodies that have been inserted
by the IDE during the steps done before.
Run the setup (CTRL-F5) and look what happens. Run the Setup in debug mode
(F8) or (F5) and look what happens.
Build the setup, and run it in different situations (Install, Modify,
Repair, Remove).
-> The setup should install at least a single file (single feature, single
component)!
Things should get somewhat clearer ...

Niko
