View Full Version : Installation Issues "failed to extract" - resolved

During the installation of AdminStudio2015 on Windows 8.1, I saw several error messages stating that "XYZ.cab failed to extract to staging area." This was after I had extracted the .exe to the same folder it was running from using the /stage_only command. Turns out that the installer was looking for the extracted folders in "%LocalAppData%\Downloaded Installations" and was having trouble reading and writing to the directory. Some extractions worked fine, but the problem was with a different .cab each time I ran the installer. Why this was the case is still a mystery, but I copied the folders extracted from the .exe to the %LocalAppData%\Downloaded Installations folder manually. After that, I was able to run the .exe without issue. Thought I'd pass it on in case anyone else ran into the same issue.
