I am in the need of creating a network installation script for an
application that I wrote with Delphi 3.0. I am using the Installshield
Express that came with Delphi 3.0 client/server.

I simply need to have the script create the Folder, and an Icon for the
application that points to the exe that is located on the server
(f:\winapps\edrtrack\tracking.exe). The installation of the BDE is
seperate because I don't want to re-install the BDE every time I roll out
a new application.

I seem to be having problems because I really have NO files to copy for
the application.

Can you help?

Thanks for your assistance......Mike <mmccullo@imminet.com>

You have to include a file in order to build an Express installation. The
trick is to get rid of this file and the three other files (_isreg32.dll,
_deisreg.isr and deisl*.isu) Express 2.01 will install to the destination
directory. In the Default Destination Directory enter the path
<SUPPORTDIR>\Temp. SUPPORTDIR is the path to the folder where Express
keeps support files needed for the installation. This folder can be found
in the temp directory. SUPPORTDIR is deleted after the installation. Use
the \Temp after SUPPORTDIR. Using only SUPPORTDIR will cause a message box
to appear asking if the user wants to overwrite a read-only file. The file
is _isreg32.dll. This is a support file located in SUPPORTDIR. To avoid
this message box use \Temp after SUPPORTDIR. In the Features tab, make
sure "Automatic Uninstaller" is unchecked. This prevents the registry
entry for uninstallation from being made. Drag a file into the Program
Files group. Choose <INSTALLDIR> as its destination. In the Dialog
Settings, make sure Choose Destination Location is not selected. You don't
want the user to select the destination of the file. You want to force it
into the path specified in Default Destination Directory so it gets cleaned
up after the installation has ended. Then you can specify the icon you
want to be made. All the files will be installed in SUPPORTIR\Temp which
will be deleted after install. The only thing left will be the icon.
