View Full Version : File count limits

What is the maximum number of files that we can insert into a group
during installation. It appears to be ~224 / ~255 (our Express Pro
hangs - or appears to - while adding many, many files). Currently using
Express Pro 1.x and considering 2.x.

We have a need to include ~4000 files in a single group, if possible.

To help answer my own question: the IWZ file appears to have a size
limit of 64K. I can move many files from a deep subdirectory structure
(on the source platform) to a short-name root-level directory, and save
about 18 bytes per file name. This gets me close, but not entirely
there.

What we have tried is to compress the file groups into a self-extracting
file that ISX can then invoke. Sometimes, however, the self-extraction
fails (by trying to extract into the hard drive root directory!!), so I
was looking for a more reliable way to get my files where I really want
them.

Does ISX 2.x have a larger size limit for the IWZ file? Or, can I
concatenate two installations and pass directory assignments from the
first to the second?

Thanks,
Jordan
