View Full Version : Migrating from previous version

I have been given the task to generate installation images from a project which seems to have been created with InstallShield 6.31 (at least that's what the Setup.exe says). This project was created by another company a while ago, I do not have IS 6.31 and I cannot find it anywhere, so I decided to give IS Express 2009 a try, but when I try to open the project's ".IPR" file, it does not appear in the file selection dialog.

I read in the documentation that importing from previous versions works, except for "projects that were created with InstallShield MultiPlatform or InstallShield Universal". I thus infer that this is unfortunately my case. Is this limitation linked to the Express edition ? Will Pro or Premier do the job ? And if not, where could I find IS 6.31 ?

I would really want to leverage the existing scripts, if I have to recreate every single bit I might well be considering other installer solutions.

Answering to myself: found this post related to IS 11 Express (http://community.acresso.com/showthread.php?t=151802), but I assume this is the same with IS Express 2009. The remaining question is then, will Pro or Premier do the job of importing the existing IS 6.31 scripts ?

Again, thanks in advance.

I believe that projects created in InstallShield 6.31 are InstallScript projects. InstallShield 6.31 has passed its end of life, and it is no longer sold. The Express edition does not have support for InstallScript, but the Premier and Professional editions do. You could use the Premier or Professional edition of InstallShield to upgrade your project. You can download an evaluation version and try it out with your existing project:

You also might want to take a look at the Read Me First sticky in the InstallShield 2009 Community forum (http://community.acresso.com/forumdisplay.php?f=245). This forum is for the Premier and Professional editions of InstallShield. Here's a link to the sticky, which has links to some KB articles that might be helpful when you upgrade your project:

I hope that helps.
