View Full Version : Problem getting my app to run in Vista

12-25-2007, 10:00 PM
I am having trouble getting my application to run in Vista after installing it using express 2008. First, I am doing all of my testing using Virtual PC 2007 with Vista premium home loaded. My app is written in VB6 and uses several third party activex controls like Farpoint spread, Videosoft OCX6, activebar 2

Problem 1:
In order to get my setup program to run, I have to run the setup.exe as an administrator, otherwise I get an installshield error when the set up first starts. I have tried creating the setup multiple times using all 3 Required execution level options, and the behavior is the same.

Problem 2:
After installing my app using the RUN AS ADMINSTRATOR option on the setup.exe, I go to run my application and I get an error that says "Failed to load control ctlLogSpreadNew - your version may be outdated". If I run my application using RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR, my application works fine. It seems I only have to run it once as an Administrator and subsequent runs dont require it to function properly. When I open up that user control in notepad, I have the following references:

Object = "{3B008041-905A-11D1-B4AE-444553540000}#1.0#0"; "vsocx6.ocx"
Object = "{4932CEF1-2CAA-11D2-A165-0060081C43D9}#2.0#0"; "Actbar2.ocx"

Object = "{E6EC7E0A-5B57-4783-88F1-27C0D50A5B92}#3.2#0"; "PowerButton.ocx"

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? My app is quite complex but I am not doing anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks! and Merry Christmas.
