View Full Version : IS 2008 - Create IIS sites without Virtual Directories

Hello all,

I have a requirement that my app will be hosted on the root of a new site, but IS 2008 requires you to define Virtual directories or the site wont be created.

"A Web site is not created on a target machine unless a virtual directory that is associated with it is installed."

Is there anyway to avoid the virtual directories requirement?

Unfortunately at this time a virtual directory is a requirement.

We are pushing to get this implemented as soon as possible with issue #IOC-000056756. More information here:

In the meantime, to work around this, I suggest creating a 'dummy' virtual directory in your project, then remove it after it is installed. There should be a few examples of deleting the virtual directory out there, one I found is here:
