Unfortunately since my VS was recently updated, I now have to run a program called vcredist_x86.exe on my target machines to make sure the DLLs and SxS stuff is all setup correctly, also my program must self register.

To accomplish this I added the vcredist_x86.exe to my files and called a custom action after file transfer to execute the program. It will not run on the target machine displaying a message saying an installation is already running so it cannot continue.

Is there a way to do this?

Other people mentioned msm's but I have no idea what they are.

I am desperate.

Thanx

Call it in "After ready to install dialog" in the Custom Actions.

Note that this will probably only work for Installation with a GUI since the Custom actions is bound to the dialog. If you are running silent Installations you must use Orca tool to place the Custom Action in the right Execute table.

Also note that if you are using the SP1 for Visual Studio you need to use the redist found in your new VS installation, and not the original.

Remember to put the redist.exe among the Setup Files which are automatically removed after an installation, and then call it from the Support Dir.
