View Full Version : How to update without multiple ARP entries?

We changed our installer so users can install over an older version of our product without first uninstalling the existing one. Formerly they were forced to uninstall the old one first. (We did this by changing the Product Version and Product code GUID for each new release).

Now the problem is: users get multiple entries in Add/Remove Programs, one each for each time a newer installer is run. It's not clear to them how to uninstall our product.

Is there a way to prevent multiple entries in ARP?

We would like to avoid having the newer installer first uninstall the old version (for a plethora of reasons), and we can't ask the user to do it first.

Thanks in advance

This would normally done with the use of a Minor Upgrade, which is something that Express doesn't support for simplicity's sake.

Unfortunately, Express doesn't provide the capability to handle this type of situation.

Thanks Bryan, that is extremely helpful and may allow me to get my company to justify getting the full version :)
