When i am installing say version 2.0 over version 1.0 its keeping the data files and all that but its not keeping the registry settings from the pervious version, which contains settings that the user then will have to input again. Is there a way to force the setup package not to overwrite specific registry settings?

The typical pattern is to use a SystemSearch(AppSearch) to read the settings into properties and default them in dialogs. Then use Registry Components to author the data back to the registry to persist the change(or lack of change )

I have the exact same problem. No matter what registry settings i use. Installshield keeps overwriting them. And i certainly dont want the registry settings to be overwritten, i want to keep the old values...

Chris:

This is exactly what I need to do. But since I'm a complete IS newbie, some guidance (such as an example) on authoring Registry Components would be very helpful.

Thanks
