When building an installation file you have the option to include or not to include the MSI engines in the setup file. I guess that the safest thing to do would be to include the engines but that adds around 4 megs to the setup files and I am not sure if this is necessary or not.

What are the chances that the target PC will not have the MSI engine already installed (I selected to use the 2.0 version)? Are there any guaranties that even the very first version of Windows XP will have the MSI engine version 2.0 already on it? Are there any guaranties that Win 9X will also have this MSI engine?

Thanks

Please refer to Released Versions of Windows Installer (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/msi/setup/released_versions_of_windows_installer.asp). To guarantee all target machines will have MSI 2.0, MSI 2.0 engine will need to be included in your setup.
