View Full Version : Modifying default value for DATABASE DIR

In my current install I would like to change the default value that appears on the Database Folder window for the DATABASEDIR. Currently it defaults to [INSTALLDIR]\Database. Is it possible to change this value? For example, can it be changed to C:\mssql8\MSSQL\Data?

One way you could do this is with a set-a-directory custom action early in your installation.

(As an aside, is that directory guaranteed to be there, or would you want to use a system search to find the equivalent directory on a system?)

Thanks Robert.

Where in the sequence would the best place to put the custom action? The directory is most likely not guaranteed to be there. Any help with specifying the system search?

For the system search, you might look into using the System Search view and wizard, under "Behavior and Logic".

The set-a-directory (Type 35) custom action should be somewhere after CostFinalize, in both the UI and Execute sequences in case the user runs a silent installation...
