Hi all,

I would like to present you a comparison I've made between the different types of setup and patch that InstallShield provides.

My original setup is composed of many files (and it's a dotnet application), and its image size is roughly 25MB (but I also add CrystalReports redistributable).

Here is the setup comparison :

- Basic MSI Setup with .NET 1.1 framework : 77283 KB
- InstallScript Setup with .NET 1.1 Framework : 42530 KB
- InstallScript MSI Setup with .NET 1.1 Framwework : 78258 KB

- Basic MSI Setup without .NET framework : 21716 KB
- InstallScript Setup without .NET Framework : 18999 KB

I don't understand why the MSI and InstallScript MSI Setup are so bigger than the InstallScript with the .NET framework
I suppose that InstallScript doesn't apply the SP1 for .NET 1.1, does it ?

Patch comparison :

I patched a text file and added only one character in this file.

- Basic MSI Update (Quick Patch) : 352 KB
- InstallScript (Differential Release) : 2704 KB
- InstallScript MSI Update (Quick patch) : 703 KB

Have I to conclude that a Basic MSI patch is always bigger than 300 KB and InstallScript MSI patch bigger than 700 KB ?
Because of InstallShield's interface ?
Why is there a so big difference between theses two patches ?

And how can we explain differential release's size ??

I hope somebody can clarify !

Thanks you in advance,

Regards.
