Hello,

The documentation for the Installation Interview states that you can enable a readme file but the question is missing in the interview. How do you enable the ReadMe control on the install success dialog in a Basic MSI project?

Thanks, Robin

I googled readme at Support (http://support.installshield.com/) and found KB article Q106070, HOWTO: Launch ReadMe from SetupCompleteSuccess.

hi sanjoy,

to display the readme during the installation u can try out this thing, this might work

Have a custom action which launches a notepad with a file. I have used the custom action wizard. In the Action type panel I have chosen the "Launch an executable" option and location as "Stored in directory table". In the Action parameters panel i have chosen the source as "SystemFolder" and Target as "notepad.exe D:\log.txt".

Sequence this custom action after CostFinalize. or any place where u want to show it but make sure it should be after Cost Finalize.

Thanks
Nabhonil.

Hi nabhonil,
Thanks for your reply.

I have a few thing to understand.

Presently I am using IS11 professional edition.

1. I am giving option to the user to change installation folder.
I am making a folder under [WINDOWSVOLUME]\ABCD as the INSTALLDIR.
However I want the user to select only the drive not give folder name.

To do this I disable the text box folder name in the dialog box.
So the user can select only the folder from the look combox.
The folder name ABCD should be added by default. So when the user

clicks OK button of Dialog InstallChangeFolder the value of text box

should be driveName:\ABCD.
My main aim is that other than ABCD the user should not enter any other

foder name. He/she can select the drive only.

2.In InstallScript 11 there is no direct Billboard option for Basic MSI

project. To do so One have to go to Additional Tools->Direct Editor. Then acess table BBControl and BilBoard. I put some values in the table. Where should I put the bmp file name that will be displayed in the bill board? How to make the bill board active or call it?

3. In IS 11 there option of splash file under Behavior and logic->Support files.
In splash file you can add as many image file (bmp/jpg). However it will show only one splash file at the start. Is there any possibility of showing the slash files on by one as the installation progress.

I will be thankfull if you kindly help me out to uderstand the thing better.

Thanks
Sanjoy

Dear Nabhonil,

I made a custom action. "LaunchReadMe"

Working Directory -> SystemFolder
FileName & CommandLine->Notepad.exe [INSTALLDIR]"ABCDReadMe.Txt"
Return Processing->Synchronous (Check Exit Code)
In-Script Execution->Immediate Execution
Install UI Sequence->After CostFinalize
Install Exec Sequence-> After CreateShortcuts

The installer is building well without any error.
However there is problem o at the time of insallation : Internal Error: 2762
If I change Working folder to WindowsFolder then I get error 1721
I request you to let me know where is the mistake.
Please Note My Notepad.exe is under c:\winnt\system32
Thanks
Sanjoy

Perhaps try changing from immediate execution to deferred execution in the Execute sequence. Files and other data are not transferred until deferred mode, and thus [INSTALLDIR] and its contents will not be present until then.

You'll also want to put the quotation marks around the full path and not just the file name:

"[INSTALLDIR]ABCDReadme.txt"
