Hi,
When I add XML file to a project and in the Advanced tab if I check "Always create XML file if it doesn't exist already" then while deploying, it throws "Unexpected Error updating XML files. Error: 3". If I uncheck the file creation check box, it works for Update, but new file are not created.

Is there a way to just copy the xml files as like other files as part of installation without using the XML files view. I have a huge bunch of XML files needs to be deployed, adding each file individually takes a lot of time and there is no dynamic linking of files so needs to remove & add everytime it gets modified.

Thanks,
Thiyagu

If you wish to deploy the base XML file, then you're best off using standard file support. If a dynamic link, or a drag and drop to the Files and Folders view doesn't get you what you want, you may be able to use the automation layer to script your exact desired component and file creation. See ISWiFeature (http://www.installshield.com/search/gsearch.asp?filter=p&as_epq=&q=ISWiFeature&area=kb&area=helpnet), ISWiComponent (http://www.installshield.com/search/gsearch.asp?filter=p&as_epq=&q=ISWiComponent&area=kb&area=helpnet) and ISWiFile (http://www.installshield.com/search/gsearch.asp?filter=p&as_epq=&q=ISWiFile&area=kb&area=helpnet) in the help, as well as general community posts, for further details on the automation layer.

See my response from IS Tech-Support:

Thanks for your patience and constant co-operation.
We really appreciate all the information you have provided
in this case.

We did further investigation into this issue and noticed that
unfortunately this issue is listed as a known issue with our product.
There is a work order open with development on this.
The work order number is 1-ZQQU9 for your reference.

I looked for the possible workaround; it appears that there is none.
This error just pops up with certain XML files and not all.

Our development is working towards a resolution.
We hope this to be fixed in our future releases.

I have found that I receive the same Error 3 with rollback whenever I set the XML File Destination on the General tab of an xml file to use a subfolder of TARGETDIR rather than just the root TARGETDIR. Definitely an issue Macrovision will need to address. For reference, in my case I am deploying the XML files to be updated within a separate component so the file is present. My experience is the target folder of that component can be set to whatever you want and will still receive the Error 3 if the XML File Changes section has a different XML File Destination value than TARGETDIR.
