View Full Version : Microsoft Access objects when installing Delphi 3 programs

When I create a new project and set the type to 'Delphi 3' I cannot choose
to install the Microsoft Access Engine along with the BDE engine. It seems
that since Delphi 3 supports Microsoft Access databases, the InstallShield
Express program should allow you to select to install these objects along
with the BDE objects (I have a valid license to ship the Access Engine).

No,

the BDE supports Access natively. You can always add it manually if it
really is necessary.

Not true, the BDE supports Access through the DAO OLE objects. Without DAO
(which would have been installed if the user had MS Office or any number of
other products), the BDE will not run with Access.

I stand corrected.

The DEPLY.TXT file on the DELPHI 3.01 CD states-

NOTE: InstallShield Express installs the MS Access driver with the
ODBC driver. To deploy Access applications, select the ODBC driver
in InstallShield. The Access driver requires installation of the
JET engine (DAO 3.0) on the computer where it is deployed.

I don't know what it means and it doesn't work for me, by but there seems
an implication that Installshield can install the DAO ?

Yes. It installs the DAO if you select ODBC in Step 1 of the BDE Wizard.
Then select the Access Driver.
