View Full Version : Resources, RTF files and the Internet

I am a user of Demoshield version 7.53.

In resources, you have the opportunity to import a text file in .rtf format. When you do, you can enter an internet URL to search for a newer file. I have been unable to get this to work.

The help file states:
Internet URL
By entering an Internet URL that you associate with a certain Resource, you can ensure that the viewer of your Demo will be using the most recent version of that file. At run-time, DemoShield will use the viewer's Internet connection to search for a newer version of a Resource, and download and apply the newer version if one exists. The Resource that is downloaded will be removed from the viewer's temp directory when the Demo is terminated.

The file name that you assign a Resource that is stored on your Web or FTP server must match the naming conventions that are used in your Demo. You must specify the full URL name of where the Resource can be found on your server. Due to the inability to move or rename Resources that are located on a server, this option should be used selectively. If DemoShield cannot locate the file on your server, the Resource included with the Demo will be used. Do not use this option unless your viewers have access to your Web site.

For example...
As per the help file, I import into the resources a text file called test.rtf. It is NOT imported by reference. In the resource manager window in the internet URL space I enter http://home.comcast.net/~rhwagner/test.rtf.

When I do this, it takes a long time to start the demo and the new file doesn't load. The test.rtf file that is the older file (originally imported) still shows.

When I put in either http://home.comcast.net/~rhwagner/
it loads faster, but no text shows whatsoever. Not even the originally imported RTF file.

I have tried this feature with images using .bmp files as well.

I would like to use this feature to let people know when a newer version of the demo has become available.

Thanks in advance.
