View Full Version : Tab character in string tables

How do I get a tab character (a.k.a \t or alt-009) into the string table?
I'm using XML project files so editing that would work too. Is this possible? It would be very useful since an SdShowInfoList for instance can use a control with aligned columns if your list of strings has tabs in it and it would not be easy to implement without the string table for multiple languages requiring different tabulation. Thanks.

This is the bext way I found of doing this...

When you create a new string put special tags where you want your tab characters. For example: "<<TAB>>".

Save your project and close InstallShield.

Open your ism file in your favorite text editor (I like UltraEdit) and replace all the occurences of "<<TAB>>" with an actual tab using the tab key.

Save the changes and exit the text editor.

Open your ism file with InstallShield and compile your project.

To verify that a tab has actually been inserted, look in the string table and actual tabs appear as little white square characters.

Also, once you have inserted one tab in your string table, you can always copy it and paste it into other strings without having to go through all of the above procedure every time.
