Do any of you know of a piece of software out there that is used to inform setup developers on what needs to be added to a distribution? I work for a very large comany with developers working on a product in remote locations all over the world, and one of the biggest challenges for me is to find out what needs to be part of a software distribution for a very large application.

I am looking for something that is web based, and easy to use. Something the developers can use to show me what needs to be added, and where it lives in source control. Something that I can use to build my tree structure in Installshield 10.5.

Any help would be appreciated. I am sure a web based tool like this exists, but I do not know what it is.

Developers seldom care about the installation setup. You may be on your own here! You mentioned source control, does your project have a Configuration Management team? You might be able to create some kind of process and documentation ( yuck I know ) where if a development team wants something compiled and deployed they have to document what its application foot print is. Get registry entries, shortcuts, files, environment settings, dependecies.

But thats probably a real long shot. Your just going to have to get agressive with the developers and pester them for information. Then when that doesn't work you will have to just put your detectives hat on and dig in to understand whats going on.
