Does the icon used in the "add/remove programs" list need to be a multi-format icon? I've tried adding an icon several times and each time it only gives me the generic win folder icon in its place. I've tried adding 16x16 icon only, 32x32 only, and also 2 formats 16x16 and 32x32.

Thanks,
PJ

Are you building on a 9x Machine by chance?

If not, you might try building your icon into a DLL or EXE and pointing the display icon property to the DLL or EXE. This is what we do for the Express Setup itself, and we have not had any problems with it.

It also may be a bitdepth issue. Are your icons more than 256 colors?

Just some guesses.

Icons are built on either a 2k or XP machine, and all are 256 color. Since this post, I've noticed that the icon displays correctly on any XP machine, but never on a win 2K machine. Even on a clean install of win2k, the icon shows up as a generic, yellow, closed windows folder.

It may be related to a bug in Microsoft Windows Installer. For additional information, please refer to MS KB article 258558 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;258558).

That could be the problem. What do you have set in the Dialogs view, in the Customer Information Dialog in the Property "Show All Users Option"?

If you have this set to No, the KB could explain this.

If you have it set to Yes, and select "Just Me" during installation, that also could be the problem.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all.

I'm not using that particular dialog at all, so I"m guessing that it defaults to installing on the current profile.
