View Full Version : Changing File Paths

Because InstallExpress 3.0 creates an ism file that is binary (not text) I am unable to edit this file without opening the IDE and making changes.

Is there anyway to edit the paths to the file in the file groups without opening the IDE?

When I release a product, the file paths should no longer point to a 'current' path, but to a 'frozen' path.

For example, \\server\product\version\icon.ico should now point to \\server\product\new_version\icon.ico.

Is there a way to do this? A utility to edit this file from the command line?

Thanks,
Dave

To my knowledge there is no way to do this. We were looking for a way to change the version number from command line but it seems impossible. Unless somebody has written a hack that reads .ism files :-)

But InstallShield Developer 7 has solutions to both issues. You can express all paths as environment variables and it has an object model which can be scripted from e.g. VBScript where you can set properties on the installation before you build.
