We have training manuals (http://www.installshield.com/ispress) and courses (http://www.installshield.com/training) available for Universal projects. As far as creating custom beans goes, perhaps see the training manual excerpt for the Universal course here: www.installshield.com/ispress#tm.

Depending upon your needs, you might use an event as well. This will allow you to "drop" java code into the installer without having to know how to create and register a custom bean. Here is a very brief description on how to add a custom event:

1. Go to "behaviror and logic -> sequences" view, and right click under pre-install or post install sequence where you want to call your code, and select "insert->wizard action", then select custom event.

2. Go to "behavior and logic -> events". Set the context list box to "Custom Event:bean" and the event list box to "onExecuting". Accept the defaults on the "class name" dialog which is displayed. This will add a new event (method). You can then drop in your java souce code within this event.

Upon building your project, your event code will be saved and compiled automatically.

Please note that there are other pre-defined events available.
