OK, so I'm new to this and I may have some of the terms wrong but here goes.

I'm using a evaluation copy of InstallShield X Express.

I'm writing the installation for our main application. One of the features of the main installation is comprised of the elements of a subsiduary application - which I'm also writing the setup for.

My current approach is to create a setup.exe for the subsiduary application and use a Custom Action to execute that at some point in the main installation process. However, this goes through a number of dialog boxes which are not appropriate when this thing is installed as part of the main applicastion. With me so far?

So I though I'd make a merge module of the subsiduary application which I could then add to the main setup. I could also use this module to create the setup.exe for the subsiduary application for the cases where I want to install that standalone. Make sense?

So how to I make a merge module?

Express does not support Merge Module Authoring....this is done by our Professional tier products.

Thanks Mike, I though that might be the case but I couldn't find any reference to merge modules on the "Feature Comparision" section of the web site.
