View Full Version : UNIX - soft links

I am currently developing for UNIX and for Windows, and I run into the follwing problem:
All of my soft links are converted into copied of the files they are linking to. For example, I have the following files:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Jun 8 17:17 libtiff.so -> lib.so.3.6.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Jun 8 17:08 libtiff.so.3 -> lib.so.3.6.1
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 831416 May 11 20:03 lib.so.3.6.1

but then I have to ftp the files over to my Windows machine, and then run my Installshield installer and the files then become as follows:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 someuser daemon 831416 Jun 15 15:27 lib.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 someuser daemon 831416 Jun 15 15:27 lib.so.3
-rwxr-xr-x 1 someuser daemon 831416 Jun 14 16:05 lib.so.3.6.1

Basically, I want to know if there's any way tp preserve soft links. I am running InstallShield X on a Windows machine - is there either a way to access files on a UNIX machine directly from InstallShield X, or a way to transfer the files over so that the soft links are preserved.

Don't ftp the 3 files just the real one "lib.so.3.6.1" not the soft link.
when you replace the real one It will keep the soft likes.

You can install Samba in your Unix machine to share files with windows. (samba.org)
