I just Joe-average user who installs commercial software on my system.

I'm finding that any software installs using InstallShield tries to initiate a dial-up networking session whenever I run SETUP.exe, particularly if it runs thru autorun from a CD.

After the 4th or 5th attempt, it will finally forget about Dialup and go about its business and install normally from the local CAB files.

Does anyone have a clue what may have gotten cross linked in my system?

Windows ME, 256 Mb RAM, ASUS motherboard, PIII-550

I do not have any Installshield developer tools installed on this system.

Thanks,

It could be that the setup is trying to download either the Windows Installer engine, or the InstallShield Scripting Engine (assuming it's a setup that uses it) from the internet. It would be pointless to do this though if the all the files are on a CD...

Few questions:

1. Does the CD have a file with a "msi" extension?
2. Are there any files named instmsia.exe or instmsiw.exe on the CD?
3. Is there a Setup.ini file? If so what are the first fe lines in it?

1. Not that I can find.

2. Nope.

3. Here ya go:

[Startup]
AppName=Dominion Wars

[Languages]
Default=0x0009
count=1
key0=0x0009

and another:

[Startup]
AppName=Atlantis - The Lost Empire Search for the Journal
[Languages]
Default=0x0009
count=1
key0=0x0009

I can go thru the other cd's I've installed in the last month if need be.

At the bottom of Setup.ini are there any lines like this:

[InstMsiA.exe]
Type=2
Location=http://www.Installengine.com/Msiengine/instmsia.exe
CertKey=MSIEng.isc
[InstMsiW.exe]
Type=2
Location=http://www.Installengine.com/Msiengine/instmsiw.exe

If so this means it is trying to download the engines from the web. If not could you do the following. From the command line browse to the location of Setup.exe. Then type the following

Setup.exe /v"/lv C:\InstallLog.log"

Once it tries the Dial up a few times, cancel the Setup and send me this InstallLog.log file. Send it to chandimar@installShield.com. I am curious to see what is causing the dial up.

Also, does this happen ONLY on Win ME?
