Hi,

Does it happen for all InstallScript MSI projects, or just this one? Can you try creating a simple InstallScript MSI project that only installs notepad.exe, and run it on that system? That will tell us if it's an issue with your project or with that system.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the reply.

All the small test projects are working fine. When I created project which have more 15000 files then its happening. Also I've now created a similar project in ver 9 and is working correctly. I'm really stuck now.

Hi,

Could each of you post your install logs here? R-Byter, your original log (in the other thread) was empty.

Edit:

Scratch that. It wasn't empty, but it didn't log after the program block. Are you both noticing the same thing in your logs?

Hi Rich,

I'm getting the same log as yours. Now I'm going backward to Ver 9 and same setup works fine. So clearly there must be something in Ver10. If I find out anything, I'll let you know.

Where is the log file of ssundar? I would like to analyze his file. By the way, i tried to make project with installscript project option(default when start installshield i think) and that when great. So only problem is with MSI. And for example, making MSI installation of my project took much more time then installscript project.
I had only default feature and default component. Like I said, i just added some files and folders. Nothing special, except that there is more than 7000 files.
Greetings

Excellent. At least we know that we didnt do nothing wrong.
What could be greater purpose of forum then bug tracking?
I expect that solution would be presented soon.

ah nuts!!

I am getting the same error when creating an MSI InstallScript project..

I have 3 features with only 2809 files with 400 folders and only 141 meg...

One of the features is our plug in for Eclipse.

If I deselect ALL of the features <why someone would do that> and run the install the install works fine <well no files are copied etc..> but at least when it hits the STATUSEX panel it doesn't **** out and give error 1628....

So what are we supposed to do in the meantime??????

This is an install I am "porting" over from Wise for Windows Installer 3.5 in which it works perfectly........

I have recreated this install 3 times now, and each time it fails..., works fine up in til I add the components to the features :(

Like You probably saw, this thing is bug. In the meantime, i finished my project with Installscript Project. That works perfectly.
Still waiting for their solution on this problem with MSI.

So you used InstallShield X as apposed to DevStudio?
(InstallScript project)

R-Byter

Yes. Installscript project(default option that program gives you when you create new project) works like a charm.

sogilvie

sheesh.. I had recreated this project in MSI installscript 3 times, then went to DevStudio 9, then back to InstallShield X installscript.
works now, but I am a week behind schedule....

Has this been resolved? I can't find any mention of this in the release notes or kb articles. Also what exactly is causing the error?

sogilvie

No it hasn't been resolved yet... it has been reported as a bug...
so hopefully in Service Pack 1 <when ever that comes out> this issue will be fixed :)

That issue is marked in our system as closed, fixed for the InstallShield X Service Pack. Do you have the SP installed?
