View Full Version : Desktop icon to open Reader and not Acrobat

02-03-2004, 06:02 AM

I am distributing a few hundred linked pdf files on a cd and have written an installation exe that:

1) checks the user's pc to make sure Adobe Reader 6.0.1 is installed (if not, it is installed off the CD - thanks to earlier people for their posts on this subject),
2) it then installs the pdf files to a set folder, and
3) adds a shortcut icon to the 'home page' on the user's desktop.

My problem is that I want the desktop shortcut to open home.pdf in Adobe Reader and not Adobe Acrobat (the default if the user has it installed). Is it possible to look into the reader system registry and find the installation path, and then add this into the shortcut open command? If yes, then how do I do it (or where do I start)?

Many thanks in anticipation of your help,
