View Full Version : Install File Size Growth

Just wondering about file size. I was a user of IS Express 2.2 for years and used in for a small application (around 500 kb). With 2.2 the install file was around 1.4MB.

Now I just upgraded to Version 5.0. I made a new install which is basically the same with a few additions such as shortcuts. Wow, the installation file is
4 MB!!

Is this what I should expect? Am I doing something incorrectly?

Perhaps, the release includes MSI engine(s)?

Being a novice I pretty much used the default settings and specified that the installation was operating system independent. I gather that this would invoke incusion of MSI?

Hey, I have one user for whom I compile with Fortran using the 8086 data library. If you are under 30 you probably have no idea what I am talking about. :)

Build Properties (http://documentation.installshield.com/Robo/BIN/Robo.dll?tpc=/robo/projects/isxhelp5/IHelpISXBuildProperties.htm) in Express 5.

If your target platform is 2000 and up, MSI already exists on the machine. On 2000 prior to SP 2 (?), the version may not be the latest, 2.0. You may still want to ship MSI engine along with your setup.

heh... never get to take Fortran. :o
