View Full Version : Error -10

I've just had problems with Error -106 and it turned out that one of the
floppy disks I was installing from had been corrupted.

Hi -

I had the same problem and, like you, after making everything
unshared, it still occured.

I got rid of it by doing two other things:

1) Making a couple of the most used file groups not compressed in the
cab file. This isn't ideal, since the cab file is bigger, but for some
reason it helped.
2) Then, for one file group that I kept getting -106 on, I had to *not*
include it with it's matching sub-component. Instead I had to create
another top-level component and then make that a "required component" of
the matching sub-component.

Bizarre and a hassle, but so far (fingers crossed) the -106
error hasn't come back.

Julien,

anglais?

You will also get this error if your file links are not valid.

Just to let you know I believe that this is a bug in the Windows Installer
engine. I am trying to write to the path during install. The docs say
enter the information into the environment table and it will handle NT,
2000, 95, and 98. Obviously it must write to the autoexec file for 95 and
98. It does, but it writes the whole path in all the gory details and it
does not put " " around the path.

Stefan,

Nah, I tried this before, no soap. I uinstalled all, and reinstalled 1.5
and it runs fine. Tried installing 1.52 again, and it can't compact
anything. For some reason, it puts its files in:

c:\program files\common files\Installshield

Why? Dunno...

I'm just going to stick with 1.5 and hope this nightmare with ISWI finishes
quickly. :(

Ivan, I cannot thank you enough for the idea. InstallShield tech support has
been less than helpful. Any technical support questions we submit, will
prompt them to occasionally respond back to see if we can provide them with
a solution.
A very best regards to you,
Jake

Thanks. It turned out to be this:

I had created the project months ago and set it aside.
Before taking it up, I upgraded to the current version 2.03
When reading the project, it said that it was made with an earlier version
and it needed to be converted
Apparently, there is a bug in the conversion process and it had lost all
associations between the features and components

I wonder what else got lost?

Thanks.
