View Full Version : what can the .rul script file do?

I have written a webpage with some components listed,
the user can select part of them to decide which components
they wanted to buy. Then according to the request, I should
package all the selected components with Install Shield.

but when I look in the .rul script file, I can't find anything related.
Can I control the
file group construction
component construction
data movement
in the script file?

Is it the only file needed when I compile the project?
where is the others and their usage? thx in advance.

can use ComponentSelectItem to select/deselect components to install. I'm not sure you want to recompile your setup for every user though.

I'd consider either having a setup for each possible user selection combination (if that isn't too many) or, perhaps simpler, have a setup for each component and send the user a setup for each component they select.

Obviously, I don't know much about your problem so this is all guessswork!

My problem is :
I get a serial of books to sell to customers, and they can select
part of them. I also develop a software to read these
books, and every book can be viewed as a filegroup in installshield or a component in my software.
they are integrated together.

With the user's request, I just distribute the a setup package with
the selected books included.
And I wanna automate this process, e.g. do it with VC,

so the books not included should be deleted from filegroup before
I compile the Install Shield project.
How can I do it with the srcipt file?
And how can I compile the project with command line style?

thx very much.
