Hi,

The documentation says that manual editing of this file is not supported. I was thinking of writing a cutom bean that extends the registry service and updates the vpd.properties file. Is that possible?

Thanks

Yes, all VPD modifications should be done using the RegistryService.

See...

http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?pcode=MULTI400PEE&articleid=Q105543

for one example of how to use the registry service.

Thanks for the quick response but what we want to do is to add a lot of other information to the vpd.properties file.
The information can be anything like the name of a file, the location of a dll etc..

Can we store more than the product install location, its version etc. in the vpd? Can we extend the registry service to include something like a map (hash map) with custom key-values that can be stored in the vpd.properties?

The reason I am asking this question is that in Windows, we have the windows registry where we can store a whole lot of information and we can define our custom keys and their values. In UNIX, we were thinking of using the VPD (vpd.properties) for this purpose. So can the VPD can be extended to contain cutom keys and their values?
