We are considering to purchase Vbuild but I can't find any information on how the updates are packed.

We need to have the update packed in an exe file, will vbuild do that?

vBuild unpacks InstallShield Professional package files originally
packages to data2.cab, and repackage them to a Red Bend proprietery archive (vcu and vcd files, depending on the package type), which InstallShield Professional knows how to read and extract during installation time. Hope this answers your question. Let us know if you need more information and we can contact you with further details

To elaborate on Ali's response --- vBuild also allows you to import an EXE based package of Install Shield, packaged by the Package For The Web add-on of Install Shield. vBuild creates an update media only, not a package, but you can use the Package For The Web application of Install Shield and re-package the media again into an equivalent self-extracting executable. Note that you want to package only an Offline media, not an Online, which is designated to be used over the Web and not as a package (since it is larger than the original media, in order to fit any user configuration).

Hope this answers your question.
