View Full Version : Silent Install / Full Upgrade

I've built an installation that needs to run silently. Everything is working except the ability to overwrite a previous installation. The setup works in normal mode, but not in silent mode. I got this command line from the forum and was wondering if there might be additional requirements to check for and perform an upgrade.

Current Command Line args:

Setup.exe /s /v"/q INSTALLDIR=\"C:\Program Files\MyDirectory\""

It looks like the command line is mostly correct. I would suggest using Setup.exe /s /v"/qn INSTALLDIR=\"C:\Program Files\MyDirectory\""
Also, for more information on what options are available to you, please look at the MSI help library topic "Command Line Options" as this will give you all of the possible options. As far as the upgrade working please make sure that you have the entry in the upgrade path specified correctly.

The upgrade is now working. As you suspected, I did not have the upgrade path set correctly, or more specifically I did not reset the Product GUID. I now understand the relationship between the Product and Upgrade GUID, and all is well.

Thanks for the correction on the setup line - I will make the modification.
