I'm working on an install for a VB6 standalone application.

We have two applications, one creates output and saves it into a file and another that opens the file and interfaces with some hardware.

I would like to create an association between the output file and the application. But the application is a standalone and I can't seem to figure out how to get a progid for it. My question is how can I use ISX4 to create a file extension association with a standalone VB app?

Thanks, Don

You can use just any dummy ProgID. Suppose your output file type has an extension of .xyz. You basically want your standalone product (the one you are creating the setup for) to open these xyz files when clicked upon right?

If so, in file extensions view, create a new node and name it "xyz". Configure as follows:

ProgID: TestXYZProgID
ProgID description: Open xyz files with my standalone product

Specify the file and icons, build and install. Any files with an xyz file extension should have the icon you specified and should launch in your application when double-clicked.

Thanks!

The documentation led me to believe that a progid was necessary. It definitely works.
