View Full Version : Crash on non-administrator

Hi ,

some time ago there was I thread about the ugly crash when using the agent with users that do not have admin rights. There were a few issues that should have been solved by now. Are they?

I will list them both again:

1. The agent should check before it writes to the registry / program files. There are now so many possibilities for rights assigned to users (semi-admin rights) that only the agent can check what it wants to do is valid to do. OR you should EXACTLY specify what is done/written. It is getting more important every day because it seems that very many clients are switching to Citrix with VERY tight security guidelines.

2. Non-admin users should be able to alert the administrator that an update is availiable. Most admin will NEVER use the programs installed, because they are sysadmins and not users. So the functions HasMessages should work fine in an very restricted environment.

There are two good points here.

1. We have to avoid that crash. That issue is in our tracking system. The reference number is 1-664LT, if you care to track against our future release notes. The issue is slated to be released in the next runtime release of the Agent.

2. We would like to find a way to allow the ISUS to run - even if the update can't be installed without the help of the Admin. This issue is still in research. We are researching how we make the entire ISUS run without the need for Admin rights.
