Install : Pb with Evaluation mode
Hi,
I have two problems with the Installshield 11.5 Windows installation : First, during the files copy, the error message "Error 1931 : The windows Installer Service cannot update the system file C:\Windows\...\xpsp2res.dll because the file is protected by Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly". I must confirm the message to continue the installation. Second, I have install this product on a computer and choose "Evaluation mode". The product was not used, but when the computer was totaly reinstalled (hard drive formatting), when i have reinstall Installshield 11.5, i can't select the option "Evaluation mode". Regards, Jean-François. |

My experience with the customer relationship of Macrovision to their customers has taught me one thing that we do not have any chance to get to know the answer how to fix this bug even if they know about it (e.g search for the thread which refers to the 1-1B3TRP bug) and although we have paid a lot of money for an installation tool which itself isn't able to become installed properly !!!So I believe we must continue living with this bug... I'm seeing the same problem here on my machine (XP Sp2 German). Results of my investigation so far:
The file xpsp2res.dll contains localized resources (strings and the like) for Windows XP SP 2. I can hardly imagine any valid reason why a setup should install this file, and I guess it's not redistributable. The version of this file in the IS 11.5 setup is 5.1.2600.2180 which is the same version as the file that exists on my computer. However the language in the steup is 1033 (English) which the file on my machine is German (which makes a lot of sense for localized resources ) This is why the setup tries to overwrite the file only on non-English machines.I believe it's save to ignore the error and complete the instalaltion without replacing that file.
