error -5006 0x80070057 when running setup.exe

Hi everybody,

One of my customers reported error -5006 with subcode 0x80070057. It occurs when he just runs setup.exe. He has send me the attached bitmap.

Does anybody know what's going wrong there? I've already searched the community for both, -5006 and 0x80070057, but haven't found a post about this particular subcode of the generic -5006.

Now I let him check the presence of the usual folders

Windows folder
Windows System folder
Common Files folder
Program Files folder
Personal folder
Application Data folder
Temporary folder

and I've send him engine32.cab build with the latest SP/hotfix, too. Perhaps this helps, but any hint about the cause of this error is greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Stephan

0x80070057 means "parameter is incorrect". Not too sure how it is related to the presence of the above mentioned folders. You can have a look at the following link for some more information about the subcode 0x80070057

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. I've already read the article you mentioned. This is why I sent a new engine32.cab to my customer. The setup in question has been created prior IS Pro 7.01 hotfix #2. So if this is an engine problem the hotfix might help.

Regards,
Stephan

Thumbs up Solved !

Here's the solution:

Fixpath.exe reported an invalid Personal folder. Due to a policy at my customer's site the folder points to a (non-existing) network drive. Now my customer has restored the original settings for the personal folder and with this setup.exe runs fine.
